The 2024 NFL Draft is still several months away, but even as the Kansas City Chiefs are still very much in the thick of the playoff hunt, it's never too early to debate about who the future stars for the franchise might be down the road.
At this point in the season, the Chiefs are currently 8-5 and still in first place in the AFC West. They might not have the clear path to the top seed, but it's still very much in play. For now, however, K.C.'s place behind the Baltimore Ravens and other teams in the AFC playoff picture at this stage means that they also have a slightly higher position in the draft order.
If the season ended today, the Chiefs would be at No. 25 overall, which is still definitely at the end of the first round but every little bit helps in overall draft position when working your way down the big board. Just last year, the Chiefs tried to trade with teams before and after that very spot in order to move up from No. 32 overall. Why? The talent differential is that great even between those few spots in the draft order.
So what could that mean for prospects? Don't forget that multiple quarterbacks will be taken before the Chiefs are on the clock, which works in the Chiefs' favor. And if you want to see who else the Chiefs could take, make sure to check out our brand new NFL Draft Big Board.
