Mock drafts serve up 3 dynamic playmakers for the Chiefs in the first round
By Matt Conner
Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas (CBS)
If you're still smarting from the Tyreek Hill trade of 2022 (and we don't blame you if that's the case), then Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports has the right mock draft for you. That's because he's got the most super-charged option coming to Kansas City.
Xavier Worthy is a very popular pick for the Chiefs right now in mock drafts, so Wilson is not alone in this thought process.
Worthy just set the NFL Scouting Combine on fire with a record-setting performance in the 40-yard dash, running it in 4.21 seconds. Yeah, that's blazing fast. Worthy is that fast even in pads as he put up some of the fastest times recorded on the field in college football last season as well.
"I love the toughness with which he plays (despite weighing just 165 pounds as the combine), and that record-setting 4.21-second 40-yard dash just reinforced what everyone else already knew," writes Worthy. "Imagine this offense with Hall of Famers Mahomes and Kelce alongside Worthy and Rashee Rice, now entering Year 2."
There in Wilson's words is the primary concern with taking Worthy. Most players with his slight build have not translated to the NFL level and you only need to look at the list of previous record holders in the 40-yard dash to know that. (John Ross was taken one spot before Patrick Mahomes after running a 4.22 second time himself in 2017.)
If the Chiefs believe he can hold up, however, Worthy could be a worthy candidate. (Sorry, it was just right there for the taking.)
