The Kansas City Chiefs will host their first preseason game of the year against the Detroit Lions. What will the weather look like for this game?
The wait is finally over: Kansas City Chiefs football is finally back at old Arrowhead Stadium.
Kansas City will host its first preseason game of the year against the Detroit Lions, which is exactly how the season started last year. While that was a loss, we all know how things eventually ended a few months later in Vegas.
That was then, and now all that matters is making sure the Chiefs are in a position to go for the three-peat. The second preseason game usually gives us a longer look at the starters, so for those who'd rather avoid watching the backups in the preseason as much as possible, this is the game to attend.
For those who might be interested in heading to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, what kind of weather should you be expecting? The game kicks off at 3:00 PM CST and as those of us who live in Kansas City know, that time of day in August is typically pretty brutal outdoors.
The high for Saturday is forecasted to be roughly 89 degrees and sunny with clear skies. NFL Weather says that it'll feel like 89 degrees throughout the first two quarters and then dip to feeling like roughly 88 degrees for the second half of the game. Fans attending the game will want to lather on that sunscreen because it'll be toasty out there.
The good news is that the warmer temperatures will favor the Chiefs. The Lions are used to playing indoors in their cozy dome so playing in the heat and humidity will probably be something they don't really want to be a part of, especially considering this is a preseason game and the result doesn't matter either way. The Chiefs have also been sweating at an Andy Reid-led training camp at St. Joseph for the last month.
Those of us who live in Kansas City know that the temperatures can be pretty rough this time of year so all things considered, this forecast isn't the worst case scenario. That being said, if you're going, be safe, wear sunscreen, and stay hydrated.
