The speculation of the NFL offseason is unrivaled. Whether it be which team will draft what prospect or where free agents will sign, there are plenty of possibilities after the Super Bowl. The best never rest, and the Kansas City Chiefs rolled straight from their Super Bowl LVIII win into the offseason fray.
Fortunately, there has been a good level of transparency between general manager Brett Veach, head coach Andy Reid, and the public. Kansas City fans have now been informed of the team's latest offseason plan, which includes their star cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.
The Kansas City Chiefs should expect a sizeable return if they trade away cornerback L'Jarius Sneed.
According to ESPN NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, Kansas City plans on franchise tagging Sneed. That extra year of control could be the difference between a life-changing contract or not, but Sneed should get his either way. Fowler further reported that both parties are open to a tag-and-trade scenario if the Cheifs and Sneed's camp cannot come to a long-term agreement.
Fowler suggests that Sneed's biggest advantage is that he can communicate with other teams. In this situation, Kansas City secures either Sneed's retention or appropriate compensation, which is another way in which Veach is covering his bases. Sneed's contract may well be one of the biggest in the league this offseason, making it difficult for Kansas City to manage.
