Keondre Coburn hits waiver wire again after Broncos release
By Matt Conner
A familiar face popped up on the NFL's transaction report on Tuesday with the news that the Denver Broncos had decided to release defensive tackle Keondre Coburn. Just like that, the first-year player is hitting the waiver wire once again for the second time in the span of a month.
Coburn first joined the Broncos three weeks ago after the Kansas City Chiefs decided to waive him as part of a series of roster moves to adjust to the addition of veterans like defensive end Charles Omenihu coming off of suspension and wide receiver Mecole Hardman coming in from a trade.
The sThe Chiefs first drafted Coburn back in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft as a big-bodied prospect out of the University of Texas.
Keondre Coburn is once again available for a team to claim him after he was released on Tuesday.
Some fans were frustrated by Coburn's initial release since the Broncos claimed him and kept Coburn from reverting back to the Chiefs practice squad. The loss of a sixth-round choice so quickly meant a position that was already thin along the defensive interior was going to remain as such given that what little investments were made there were clearly not working out.
The Broncos were forced to keep Coburn on the active roster since they claimed him in the first plce, but Coburn never made it beyond being a healthy scratch each week for the Broncos even as they played K.C. twice in the last month.
Coburn is now subject to the NFL's waiver wire once again and he could be claimed by another team. However if he goes unclaimed, then he might be able to sign back with the Chiefs' practice squad.
