KC Chiefs use final pick of 2024 NFL Draft on Holy Cross OL C.J. Hanson
By Matt Conner
The final player who will be joining the Kansas City Chiefs rookie class of 2024 is C.J. Hanson.
The Kansas City Chiefs are nearly finished putting together their official draft class of 2024. With the final pick scheduled for them to take, at No. 248 overall in the 7th round, the Chiefs have selected C.J. Hanson, offensive lineman from Holy Cross.
The selection of Hanson is interesting even from a positional standpoint to begin with because it's the third offensive lineman taken by the Chiefs in a seven-player draft class. Hanson joins a very competitive mix for spots on the active roster, but it's possible that general manager Brett Veach is thinking for 2025 and beyond as players like Trey Smith and Lucas Niang prepare to hit free agency.
Hanson has a big frame at 6'6, 305 lbs. and has been the team's long-term starter at right guard for the last three seasons, giving him tons of experience along the interior. He draws solid reviews on his technique and pad levels, but strength of competition and actual play strength are both concerns and these are questions that can only be answered with time spent developing on a team's roster (or practice squad).
Let's take a look at the draft class so far:
- Round 1 - Xavier Worthy, WR, Texas
- Round 2 - Kingsley Suamataia, OT, BYU
- Round 4 - Jared Wiley, TE, TCU
- Round 4 - Jaden Hicks, S, Washington State
- Round 5 - Hunter Nourzad, OL, Penn State
- Round 6 - Kamal Hadden, CB, Tennessee
- Round 7 - C.J. Hanson, OL, Holy Cross
Just because the Chiefs are done drafting, however, doesn't mean that the work is done for this front office. In fact, they're likely already working the phones in the seventh round as they attempt to secure some free agent signings after the draft from rookie or priority free agents.
