The Kansas City Chiefs have made their first move of the offseason at perhaps their greatest position of need: wide receiver. On Thursday, they reportedly agreed to a 1-year deal with free agent wideout Marquise "Hollywood" Brown.
Brown, who has previously played for the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals, is the first new entrant into a Chiefs wide receiver room that is expecting a significant makeover this offseason. The Chiefs already released Marquez Valdes-Scantling earlier this winter, and others like Mecole Hardman and Richie James are scheduled to hit free agency.
The Chiefs were reportedly interested in Brnown in the days leading up to his signing along with other potential free agents like Darnell Mooney and Curtis Samuel.
The Kansas City Chiefs have struck a deal for a new wide receiving addition with the signing of Hollywood Brown.
Brown came into the NFL as a former first-round pick of the Baltimore Ravens where he became a reliable outlet in a run-first offense for Lamar Jackson and company. He even crossed the 1,000-yard threshold in 2021 after catching 91 passes and 6 touchdowns.
That offseason, the Arizona Cardinals sensed a chance to go all-in around Kyler Murray and elevate the offense, so they swapped their first-round pick for Brown to pair him with DeAndre Hopkins. Unfortunately, injuries capsized the team's chances and their long-term vision never took off. From there head coach Kliff Kingsbury was fired, Hopkins was suspended and then released, and the franchise started over with former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.
Brown hit the market for the first time this spring after serving out his rookie deal and having his fifth-year option exercised by Arizona. He has 313 career catches for 3,644 receiving yards and 28 touchdowns.
