B.J. Thompson, DE (166th overall)

B.J. Thompson has played a grand total of zero snaps this season. He's been a healthy scratch in every game, but the Chiefs have still kept him on the active roster nonetheless.

Thompson was the biggest project in the entire draft class. Given how skinny he was coming out of college, he would have been overmatched against NFL linemen. But his bend and athleticism are superstar traits.

Keondre Coburn, DL (194th overall)

The very first member of the draft class to permanently depart the roster was Keondre Coburn.

I was a fan of him prior to the draft and believed he could be excellent versus the run. Unfortunately, the Broncos claimed him off waiver as the Chiefs tried to sneak him onto the practice squad in order to make room for Mecole Hardman.

It's always disappointing to lose a rookie before the end of the season, but the team obviously felt comfortable with the possibility as they did place him on waivers.

Nic Jones, DB (250th overall)

With their final pick in the 2023 draft, the Chiefs selected Ball State cornerback Nic Jones. He's dressed in five games and played 50 snaps, exclusively on special teams.

Kansas City took a flyer on Jones likely due to his exceptional arm length (32.375 inches) and potential shown in press coverage.

Like with most seventh-round picks, Jones is essentially a dollar scratcher from your local QuickTrip. The Chiefs will do their best to develop him, but expectations should be tempered.
