A little over a week ago, Frank Clark, the Chiefs edge rusher who many hoped would stay in Kansas City and make another run for the Lombardi Trophy, signed with an AFC West Rival, the Denver Broncos. While the news hurt for some fans in Chiefs Kingdom, the truth is that seeing former favorites play for a division rival is nothing new.

In Chiefs history, hometown favorites leave only to be admired from afar, such as pass rusher Jared Allen, who went to the NFC to continue his Hall of Fame career, or tight end Tony Gonzalez, who left to compete for a Super Bowl that never happened in Atlanta.

The difference, however, is when other players choose to leave the Chiefs for a hated rival and turn their backs on the town that loved them dearly. Yet is that really how it is? Either way, the Chiefs have been here before.

Brandon Flowers, defensive back

At a time when the Chiefs were already mostly heading in the wrong direction, Brandon Flowers' departure from the Chiefs to play for the San Diego Chargers was an incredibly tough pill to swallow. Flowers had become synonymous with the Chiefs' defense, and the entire fanbase deeply felt his absence. His exceptional ball skills and fiery competitiveness made him a fan favorite.

Flowers was the epitome of a shutdown cornerback. His ability to blanket receivers and make crucial pass breakups was unmatched. Watching him go toe-to-toe with the league's top wideouts was beautiful. He possessed the agility to stick with speedy receivers and the physicality to disrupt bigger targets. No matter who he lined up against, you always felt confident Flowers would give his all and come out on top.

But it wasn't just his on-field performance that endeared Flowers to Chiefs fans. It was his passion for the game and his dedication to the Kansas City community. He embraced the city and its fans with open arms, becoming a true ambassador for the team. Flowers was known for his engaging personality, interactions with fans, and charitable endeavors off the field.

When news broke of his departure to the Chargers, it was like losing a piece of the Chiefs' identity. The void left by Flowers was significant in terms of his skill set and leadership. It took time for fans to adjust to the idea of seeing him in a different uniform, knowing that his talent would now be utilized against their beloved Chiefs.

Despite the disappointment of seeing Flowers leave, Chiefs fans will forever cherish the memories he created during his time in Kansas City. He provided plenty of unforgettable moments, from his game-changing interceptions to his highlight-reel pass breakups. His impact on the team and the community will always be remembered, and his legacy as one of the great Chiefs players will never fade.

As a Chiefs fanatic, it's about rallying behind the current roster, supporting the team's new defensive stars, and believing in the quest for Super Bowl glory. But deep down, there will always be a special place in the hearts of Chiefs fans for Brandon Flowers, and his impact during his time as a Kansas City Chief will never be forgotten.

The next player on the list was a hard hitting line backer that turned to the dark side to end his amazing career.
