Kansas City Chiefs to target on fantasy waiver wire in Week 3
By Jacob Milham
The Kansas City Chiefs return to Arrowhead Stadium victorious following the Week 2 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. They should have an easier opponent against the floundering Chicago Bears, who limp to Kansas City without a win.
The Chiefs' fantasy outlook has been volatile over the past couple of weeks, but there are some waiver options worth taking a look at this week. Before we get into this week's picks, let's look at how the waiver targets from last week faired:
- Rashee Rice - WR90
- Jerick McKinnon - RB52
- Noah Gray - TE25
Here are this week's Chiefs waiver wire targets for fantasy football in Week 3.
1. Skyy Moore
NFL Fantasy rostered: 37.5%
Rice's fantasy output from Week 1 to Week 2 reinforces how volatile this Chiefs wide receiving room can be from a fantasy standpoint. But, with Kadarius Toney likely hampered with a new injury against the Bears, the Chiefs could look towards Moore to fill the void.
Moore flopped in Week 1 but bounced back against the Jaguars. He led the team with 70 receiving yards and one touchdown on three catches. Fifty-four of those yards came on one catch, but he still recorded his first regular-season touchdown grab.
Moore is not a must-start against the Bears, yet is worth a stash on your bench. Head coach Andy Reid could get Moore involved in a litany of ways with Toney limited.
2. Kansas City Chiefs Defense
NFL Fantasy rostered: 82.7%
Defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's squad is not available on most waiver wires, but owners need to double-check immediately. The Chiefs defense ranked as the league's fifth-best from a fantasy standpoint, tallying four sacks and a fumble recovery in Week 2. The Jaguars offense is lightyears ahead of a floundering Bears unit, making the defense's fantasy production very enticing this week specifically.
The Gren Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defenses both scored at least 16 PPR points against the Bears. The Chiefs could surpass that mark easily in Week 3, especially with Chicago's level of dysfunction.
3. Clyde Edwards-Helaire
NFL Fantasy rostered: 4.7%
I have never been the biggest fan of Clyde Edwards-Helaire, but Isiah Pacheco's injury worries ahead of Week 3 make a flier on him enticing. Pacheco is suffering from a hamstring contusion ahead of the Chicago matchup, a nagging but not severe injury.
The Chiefs only have two other running backs on the active roster, Edwards-Helair and Jerick McKinnon. McKinnon is a great backfield receiver, but not the top option for grinding out yards in a blowout or starting a game. Edwards-Helaire might not be an exciting target, but should still see more productive snaps than McKinnon. In Week 1, when Pacheco was limited, Edwards-Helaire had a touch on 50% of his snaps. McKinnon has no more than 18% in Week 1 or 2.
As long as Pacheco is hurt, Edwards-Helaire is worth a stash on your bench. The game could be a blowout, and Kansas City will likely turn to him or another temporary solution over McKinnon to chew the clock.
