It's the last great exhale of the NFL offseason. Following the opening of a new league year, the frenzy of free agency, and the drama of the draft, the NFL offseason features one more tentpole event—the reveal of the schedule for the following season.
And now we can finally schedule the NFL schedule—if that even makes sense.
Adam Schefter says the league's regular-season schedule will be made known next Wednesday.
For the last several days, the NFL has been playing coy for reasons unknown about the date of the schedule reveal. Generally the league hosts a show that reveals the full schedule and highlights special games on the second Thursday of May. This year, however, the appointed date crept closer and closer without any word, making media members wonder if it would be held the following week instead.
As it turns out, the answer is next Wednesday, May 15, per ESPN reporter Adam Schefter.
When it comes to the Kansas City Chiefs, it will be interesting to see just how many primetime games that Patrick Mahomes and company are given as they chase a historic three-peat. The Chiefs will open the year on Thursday Night Football in the season opener and from there are likely to be bounced around the schedule to appease the league's numerous broadcast partners.
Last year the Chiefs hosted the Detroit Lions in the season-opening contest that didn't go quite like anyone anticipated, but in the end, the only thing that mattered was their ability to hoist another Lombardi Trophy. You can believe that's true once more as the Chiefs prepare for another long season chasing the record books.
