8. Pat Shurmur

Pat Shurmur was another day-one assistant to Reid in Philadelphia with underwhelming results as a head coach. Shurmur served as the Eagles tight ends and offensive line coach from 1999-2001, then the quarterbacks coach from 2002-2008. Tight end Chad Lewis and McNabb blossomed under Shurmur's tutelage, only bolstering his coaching resume.

Shurmur eventually earned a head coaching job with the Cleveland Browns, their sixth head coach since 1999. The bar was low for Shurmur, with a talent-depleted Browns squad. He still did not meet expectations, witha 9-23 record across the 2011 and 2012 seasons. The offensive-minded coach failed to develop a potent offensive attack for a win-starved Browns team.

Shurmur has one win as an interim head coach for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2015 but earned another head coaching chance in 2018 for the New York Giants. Despite investments in the offensive unit, Shurmur recorded an identical 9-23 record across the 2018 and 2019 seasons. In total, Shurmur had no postseason appearances as a head coach, with an abysmal 19-46 record to boot. Shurmur was an award-winning assistant coach, but could not cut it at the top.
