The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of the third phase of offseason training activities, but things aren't going to proceed as planned on Thursday. Instead, the team announced the postponement of Thursday's practice to Friday after B.J. Thompson was hospitalized.

According to Adam Teicher of ESPN, the Chiefs made the decision about practice after Thompson, who was not named at the time, was taken away by ambulance. Nate Taylor of The Athletic confirmed he was in "stable" condition, which was heartening to hear.

Later updates from Tom Pelissero confirmed it was a backup defensive lineman who reportedly had a seizure in a special teams meeting before going into cardiac arrest. Pelissero then noted that the player in question was Thompson.

Thompson joined the Chiefs last year as a situational pass rushing prospect out of Stephen F. Austin. He was selected in the fifth round and was largely a healthy scratch who was given the full season to develop on the active roster as a developmental player. He did appear in one game to end the season when the Chiefs were resting starters for the postseason and had two tackles to his credit.

Such an episode is scary for all involved. Chiefs Kingdom continues to send positive thoughts and prayers to Thompson, his family, and everyone involved in such a traumatic situation.
