To begin the season, these Kansas City Chiefs are 3-0 to absolutely nobody's surprise.
Patrick Mahomes is still Patrick Mahomes. The defense is still a strong unit. Not a whole lot has changed from a year ago.
A Super Bowl in mind? Absolutely. That's just how it goes with this organization, now. It's what fans have been accustomed to.
But, one thing fans aren't used to seeing is one major difference within the offense to begin 2024.
Tight end Travis Kelce has yet to find the end zone and is sitting at just eight receptions for 69 yards through three games. We're seeing headlines such as "What's wrong with Travis Kelce?" among others.
It's been enough for his fantasy football managers to panic, but as for Chiefs fans and Kelce himself?
It's truly not a big deal, whatsoever. Andy Reid isn't worried. Mahomes actually sees it all as a positive.
Now, if you were to ask his brother Jason, that's a different story. Jason isn't too fond of hearing all of the criticism or speculation over whether Travis has "lost a step."
On a recent podcast episode, the brothers were discussing Travis' struggles to begin the year and Jason got real vulnerable when speaking about his brother, even holding back tears halfway through this segment:
"It's gonna go your way ... especially if you keep being the guy you've always been ... It's frustrating for me to watch and have to listen to, but I can't wait (for it to turn around)," Jason said.
"I appreciate it brother ... and if it doesn't (turn around), as long as we're winning football games, we good to go baby," Travis replied.
Travis Kelce has the right attitude about the criticism to begin his 2024 season
First off, it was heartwarming to watch Jason get so vulnerable on the air. The two of them have always shared such a special bond, and neither one of them have ever been shy about just being a regular human being, despite all of the fame and accolades.
But, for Travis to come out and have the positive attitude he does in response to all of the criticism? That's what it's all about.
That's why fans are so proud to call him one of their own.
Some players battle off-field issues with substances, domestic abuse among other things, and that makes it difficult to separate fandom and real life for certain fans.
But when it comes to Kelce? He's just your regular dude, at the end of the day.
Oh, and he's dating Taylor Swift.
But hey, other than that, winning three Super Bowls, starring in countless commercials and being one of the highest-demanded interviews in the sports world ... he's just a regular dude, and so is Jason.
Just two brothers, having a good time, showing they, too, are human.
Side note: When Travis goes off for 12 receptions, 145 yards and three scores later this season, there's going to be a whole lot of apologizing going on.
