Earlier this week, the Indianapolis Colts found out that they'd have to go the rest of the season without the services of cornerback Julius Brents. On Thursday, they promoted a familiar face for Chiefs Kingdom to help address issues raised by the loss.

NFL reporter Aaron Wilson reported the news that the Colts had signed cornerback Chris Lammons to the active roster on Thursday. The terms of the deal were for a reported $1.125 million for a single season.

The good news is that Lammons was already hanging around on the team's practice squad and has been with the Colts since 2023. That gives Shane Steichen a familiar face to insert into special teams units and on defense, despite the clear talent differential that they'll have to overcome elsewhere.

In the wake of the injury to Julius Brents, the Colts are making moves to bolster the secondary.

Chiefs fans should be very familiar with Lammons given his four years spent with the roster from 2019-2022. The team signed the former South Carolina cornerback as his third NFL when short stints with the Falcons and Saints failed to yield a meaningful place on the roster. In K.C., Lammons found a coach to champion his cause in Dave Toub and he provided solid special teams play for the team for the next few years, when active.

Lammons would go on to play in 30 games total for the Chiefs before being waived, when the Cincinnati Bengals claimed him in the winter of 2023. The Colts would come calling with an opportunity six months later and there he's stayed.

As for Brents, who is a K-State product, there are slight hopes out of Indy that he could return by mid-December for the team, but that depends on the surgery and recovery time. Brents was the team's second-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
