Jerrel Wilson, punter

When we said specialists were high on these lists, we weren't joking around. In fact, if we lengthened this to six, we'd have another in Chiefs legendary kicker Jan Stenerud. Nevertheless...

Before the Chiefs turned in Dustin Colquitt's name in the 2005 NFL Draft, the only royalty to speak of at the punter position, Jerrel Wilson was the only entrant in that category. Wilson was an early Chiefs legend after being drafted in the 11th round in the 1963 AFL Draft out of Southern Miss.

From 1963 to 1977, Wilson would be a staple for early Chiefs teams through the good and bad—from the team's first Super Bowl victory to the franchise's bottoming out in the mid-seventies. He appeared in 217 total games for the Chiefs, good for fourth all time, but the truth is if he'd played 16-game seasons like today, Wilson would be much higher on the list.

Wilson was a three-time Pro Bowler who led the league in punting average on four separate occasions. As one of the first acclaimed specialists in the NFL, he helped underscore the importance of the position.
