Everyone on planet Earth wants to watch the Kansas City Chiefs
By Matt Conner
Don't look now but the Kansas City Chiefs are a popular team.
We know. "Stop the presses!" Right? While that's not exactly what one would call news, the truth is that some of us are still adjusting to the idea that the Chiefs are prime viewing material these days. For newer or younger fans, the Chiefs have always been relevant and successful. The offense has always been exciting and the defense stout.
Some others of us, however, still have Herm Edwards' voice from the sidelines in our heads. We see Romeo Crennel's unchanging facial expressions at night when we go to sleep, and our nightmares are a mixture of watching Tyler Palko and Brodie Croyle attempt to move the chains.
As it turns out, building a dynasty does wonders for a team's fan base.
Suffice it to say, we're still keen to take notice of every shred of evidence that the Chiefs are big time.
As it turns out, winning consecutive Super Bowls can work wonders for a team's popularity. Chasing a historic three-peat is good for business, and it doesn't hurt when your quarterback is arguably the best to ever play the game. Of course, there's also the household name of a tight end, and perhaps having the planet's most popular singer as a fan helps as well.
So, yeah, the Chiefs have a lot going for them.
Whatever makes people watch the Chiefs, they're doing it in spades. Check out the latest TV ratings from the first few weeks of the NFL schedule.
Yeah that's the Chiefs' first three games of the season registering as the three of the top four broadcasts so far this season. Only Ravens vs Cowboys came in higher than a single Chiefs game and that remains in third place. Both Baltimore and Dallas look good here as well, but it's K.C. that comes out shining.
Some games will level out, perhaps even this week as the Chiefs play a depleted Chargers team in an AFC West battle in mid-afternoon on Sunday. But the Chiefs will be right back in the thick of things with another primetime battle on Monday Night Football in Week 5 against the Saints.
