Even Jon Gruden knows to wear Kansas City Chiefs gear these days

The truth is that Gruden and Andy Reid are old pals, but we're here for any take that dismisses the Raiders.

How does that old maxim go? Oh yeah: "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

We're not sure exactly how many of the Las Vegas Raiders would even be allowed to join the Chiefs these days given the talent disparity between the rosters (*exception below), but we see at least a former Raiders coach has been given such a chance with the appearance of Jon Gruden in Chiefs training camp.

Editorial exception: We're pretty sure most of Chiefs Kingdom would be fine giving Maxx Crosby a permanent parking spot at Arrowhead for being such a badass player (and hoping he eventually joins the right side of this fight). Seriously, that guy's a monster.

Anyway, back to Gruden. The Chiefs are in St. Joseph, Missouri, well into the second half of training camp before a hopeful march toward a third consecutive Super Bowl title. Gruden stopped by to say hey, offer some wisdom, and show off some of his best looks by wearing red and gold.

If Reid wants to add a veteran voice to his coaching staff or even a list of occasional consultants, we're here for it. If he just wanted to make sure Raiders fans got a look at an organizational icon wearing their colors, even better. That said, we're pretty sure this is the NFL equivalent of a friend stopping by to say hey.

It might surprise newer fans to know but Gruden and Reid go back a long time in their friendship. In fact, their first years as NFL coaches were together on the sideines of the Green Bay Packers. In 1992, Mike Holmgren was the team's head coach and his staff not only included Reid teaching the team's offensive line and tight ends but he also had Gruden for quality control. (That same staff included Ray Rhodes, Steve Mariucci, and Sherman Lewis.)

So really, it's much ado about nothing, but don't tell that to any Raiders fans. (We're not worried about saying it here because of the fan base's literacy rate.) At any rate, Coach Gruden, you're welcome around here anytime.
