With the rookie class figured out, let's take a way-too-early look at what the 53-man roster could resemble.

Yes, we know. We've got several more months to live with a 90-man roster. In fact, we've not even gotten through offseason training activities, rookie minicamp, more player tryouts, mandatory minicamp, or the entirety of the preseason in St. Joe for the Kansas City Chiefs.

So why are we discussing the 53-man roster? We're gluttons for punishment, we suppose.

The 2024 NFL Draft is now in the books and that was the last significant tool for teams to use for roster construction this offseason. Yes, some vets will be signed as free agents and maybe a trade or two will occur. But for the most part, we can now see how teams will stack up in a general sense for the coming season.

Because we can see draft classes in full, we thought it'd be fun to then take a look at the Chiefs roster and see how a final 53-man roster might take shape. Let's begin with the easy part.

QUARTERBACKS

Players: Patrick Mahomes, Carson Wentz

This one is simple, since nothing is going to change here from a personnel standpoint. The best quarterback in the game today is backed up by the best backup the Chiefs have had since Mahomes took over as the starter in 2018. This position has never looked better on the depth chart, and anyone else on the roster is destined for the practice squad. (We'll get to that.)
