The San Francisco 49ers defense has played incredibly well in the first half of Super Bowl LVIII against the Kansas City Chiefs but the unit has suffered a significant injury with the loss of Dre Greenlaw in the first half.

Greenlaw, a starting outside linebacker for the 49ers, went down with a non-contact injury when running back onto the field for a play. Immediately it was believed to be a significant injury as an injury cart came out and Greenlaw sought medical treatment from the 49ers training staff.

The 49ers have lost a significant defensive piece in the first half of the game against the Chiefs.

It didn't take long for a report to emerge from the 49ers that Greenlaw had suffered an Achilles injury, meaning he will be out for the rest of the game.

Not only will Greenlaw miss the rest of the Super Bowl but he now faces a significant rehabilitation moving forward into the offseason. The Niners may have a decision to make knowing that Greenlaw could miss significant time in the 2024 season and he's coming into the year in the final year of a two-year extenson signed in 2022.
