Clyde Edwards-Helaire is hungry to return to Super Bowl

Clyde Edwards-Helaire already has the one thing that most NFL players will desperately try to achieve in their playing careers: a Super Bowl ring. But that doesn't mean he's not hungry for another, especially one that he can point to and say he helped earn it.

Edwards-Helaire joined the Kansas City Chiefs in the midst of their tremendous run of success in the last several years. This weekend will be the sixth consecutive conference championship game appearance, and they've already appeared in three of the last four Super Bowls. They've walked away with two victories in those games, so Edwards-Helaire knows a thing or two about parades.

That said, don't forget that Edwards-Helaire was drafted in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, which meant he came in after that first Super Bowl in this present era. From there, the Chiefs lost one Super Bowl, didn't appear in the next one in 2021, and then finally won another last year—giving CEH his one and only Super Bowl ring.

There was only one problem for Edwards-Helaire: he wasn't active for the game.

The Chiefs running back sat down on Up & Adams to discuss the fire he feels this postseason.

Edwards-Helaire recently sat down with Kay Adams on the popular Up & Adams show and talked about his drive to not only earn another championship with the Chiefs but to be a participant in it this time around.

"It would mean everything. It’s sending chills down my back now, because the Super Bowl that I was actually able to really be a part of, we lost," says Edwards-Helaire. "I got the opportunity to get activated before the game last year and I thought I was going to get the opportunity to play but didn’t. I was more than grateful that I was able to become a world champion and be a part of the team."

Edwards-Helaire went on in the interview to say that the Chiefs used him as Devonta Smith on the scout team in practices before Super Bowl LVII and he also tried to learn multiple receiver roles in case of injury to the likes of JuJu Smith-Schuster. In the end, however, he was left inactive during the Super Bowl after being active but not playing in the two earlier rounds as well.

This year, Edwards-Helaire has played a bigger role for the Chiefs and has spelled Isiah Pacheco at times with some nice runs. Just last week, he had 31 rushing yards on two carries against the Buffalo Bills in a Divisional Round win.

"This next game it’s like a little mini-fire right now and it’s been burning since the end of that last season just to get back to this moment just because I wanted to have a helmet on and pads on for that game. So no matter what, my goal is to win this AFC Championship and hopefully get in the Super Bowl. "
