The second week of preseason football is upon us and this time the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Detroit Lions on Saturday. This is the Chiefs' first home game of the preseason and it'll be yet another opportunity for those further down on the depth chart to show what they can do and why they deserve to stick around on the roster.
While those lower on the depth chart will get a chance this weekend, the second preseason game is usually when we see the most from the starters during the preseason. With starters typically not playing at all in the preseason finale, this is the time for them to get their final reps in before the regular season commences in September.
Some fans don't care as much about the preseason games but for those who do, let's break down all the information you might need to watch the Chiefs take on the Lions this weekend.
Lions vs Chiefs: Game Details
Date: Aug. 17
Time: 3:00 p.m. CST
Location: GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
Andy Reid said at the conclusion of training camp that he's expecting the starters to play for most of the first half against the Lions. Reid is a big proponent of playing starters in the preseason and at this point, who are we to doubt that decision?
Even though we know that Patrick Mahomes doesn't need the reps, it's a good time for the offense to work together and try to gel before the games that count start up. More often than not, Reid will pull the starters once he feels like he's seen what he needs to see.
