Yeah, this is not the season-ending divisional showdown that most folks hoped it would be—at least on the Bolts' side.

As the Kansas City Chiefs prepare to visit the Los Angeles Chargers to close out the 2023 regular season schedule for both teams, this final contest features nothing to play for on both sides. The Chiefs are likely going to rest the majority of their starters as a semi-bye week before heading on to the postseason. For L.A., the season ended a long time ago and they already gave head coach Brandon Staley his walking papers.

So what is at stake? Well, plenty of players are still hoping to meet milestones and a lot of guys are jostling for future playing time or hope to impress teams enough to extend their careers for anothe rseason. So while some vets might be on cruise control. there's enough money at stake and pride involved for a competitive affair.

Plus it's always fun to beat a rival, right?

Chiefs vs Chargers game time

Originally, the Chiefs and Chargers had no idea when they would play—even the day was a mystery. Such is life in the NFL and with broadcast partners who want to have as much flexibility as possible heading into the final week. And who can blame them when it's possible that starters resting or injuries occurring could have robbed a game of its star power? Finally, the NFL figured out its schedule as of late Sunday evening and they informed K.C. and L.A. that they'd kick off on Sunday, January 7 at 3:25 p.m. C.T.

Chiefs vs Chargers location

The Chiefs will take to SoFi Stadium for the first time this year after already hosting the Chargers earlier this season. Back in Week 7, K.C. got the best of the visitors by a final score of 31-17.

Chiefs vs Chargers odds

The Chiefs are favored by two points, which doesn't sound realistic for a championship contender going against a team that's already fired its head coach. However, the Chiefs could very easily decide to rest their starters in Week 18 and make things quite easier in terms of opposition for Easton Stick and company. Remember, the Chiefs aren't even remotely focused on the results of this game.

Series history for Chiefs vs Chargers

The Chiefs lead the all-time series with a record of 68-58-1 as AFC West rivals. The balance in the series has shifted radically toward the Chiefs since Andy Reid arrived as head coach, since K.C. has won 16 of their last 19 contests against the Bolts. There have been plenty of close calls in that span but Reid's team generally finds a way to win. They've also won the last four games coming into Week 18.
