Patrick Mahomes' magical flick of the wrist is his latest training camp trick
By Ryan Heckman
At this point, it's not out of the ordinary for Kansas City Chiefs training camp to give fans exactly what they would have hoped for: a Patrick Mahomes highlight.
It happens almost daily, but you know what?
It never gets old.
Once again, at Friday's practice, Mahomes' magnificence was on full display. On one rep in team drills, Mahomes rolled out of the pocket and his wide receiver Mecole Hardman for a modest gain. If it had been a normal pitch and catch, nobody would have batted an eye.
But, it was anything but normal. Take a look.
It's pretty hilarious to think that defenses have to try and figure out a way to game-plan for something like that. Spoiler alert: they can't.
You cannot do anything about what Mahomes showed in the above clip. You can try, but he'll still make defenses look silly.
This is just another example of why all the Chiefs really need is Patrick Mahomes
Hear me out. Travis Kelce is a future Hall of Famer. The Chiefs invested in their wide receiver core more so this year than last. And, Kansas City does have some studs up front on the offensive line.
But, this is truly another example of why having Patrick Mahomes as your quarterback makes life that much easier on you. Hardman just has to make a simple cut across the field, all the while, Mahomes is running to his left knowing good and well it isn't going to be the ideal angle to throw.
And then, flick.
Just like that, Mahomes magic for all to see.
There is no other quarterback in the league, right now, that makes life as easy on his teammates as Mahomes does. Why else do you think he's able to win a Super Bowl with last year's receiving core? Nothing agianst those guys, but it was not just a narrative all last season. It was the truth. The Chiefs' lack of talent at wide receiver gave the offense far too many headaches and inconsistency.
This mere training camp throw by Mahomes might not mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but let's not take it for granted. The guy is pure magic. As long as he's on the field, Kansas City is always contender, regardless of his supporting cast.
