It wasn't so long ago that Darius Rush was a heralded college prospect looking to work his way up draft boards and looking forward to making his impact felt at the professional level. On Wednesday, NFL reporter Tom Pelissero broke the news that Rush is getting ready to find his way onto his third NFL team.

It's been a whirlwind opening to the NFL career of Rush, who was originally drafted by the Indianapolis Colts earlier this spring in the fourth round. Despite the decent level of investment in him in terms of draft capital, the Colts tried to clear him through waivers in order to get him to land on the practice squad.

Unfortunately for Jim Irsay's franchise, the decision to put Rush on waivers cost them a chance to develop him over the long term since the Chiefs decided to claim him instead. The Chiefs were able to put him on their practice squad in the process after cutting ties with defensive tackle Danny Shelton, and Rush's upside was exciting to have in-house for the long-term picture.

Apparently, the Steelers wanted to accelerate Rush's learning curve. As the Steelers continue to work around personnel changes in the secondary, they're reportedly ready to release veteran nickel corner Desmond King and the ensuing move would be to snag Rush from the Chiefs—which means he'd be placed on the team's active roster.

Once the claim on Rush is official, the Chiefs will have an official spot on the practice squad to fill.
