The Kansas City Chiefs are in the midst of some roster tinkering that includes bringing back some familiar faces to the active roster. Just one week after trading with the New York Jets to reunite with wide receiver Mecole Hardman, the Chiefs have decided to sign veteran defensive lineman Mike Pennel.
Per our friend Charles Goldman, the Chiefs are bringing in Pennel as a practice squad signing to provide depth and security along the defensive front with a long season ahead in mind.
The Kansas City Chiefs continue to bring back familiar faces this season with the re-signing of Mike Pennel.
The Chiefs have released wide receiver Daniel Arias from the practice squad to make room for Pennel.
Pennel first joined the Chiefs back in 2019 as a mid-October signing during the team's first Super Bowl run in 50 seasons. Pennel put up 24 tackles and 1 sack in 8 games that year and the team re-signed him to another one-year deal for 2020. He played in 14 total games that year as a rotational tackle in which he had 29 total tackles.
After wrapping his career at Colorado State-Pueblo, Pennel went undrafted but he earned an opportunity as a rookie free agent to bring his 330-pound frame to training camp with the Green Bay Packers. He'd remain in Green Bay for the next three seasons before signing with the New York Jets for another couple of years. Pennel has also played for the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, and Chicago Bears.
