The Kansas City Chiefs are now officially back to work on Tuesday with the resumption of the team's training camp at Missouri Western State Univ. in St. Joseph. Included in the mix of competition and drills are two new players: linebacker Olakunle Fatukasi and cornerback Duron Lowe.

After the Chiefs suffered a 26-24 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Sunday afternoon (and sorted through the subsequent injuries), general manager Brett Veach decided to alter some of the competition on defense, especially in the face of injuries to corners Nic Jones, the team's seventh-round pick, and Anthony Witherstone, an undrafted free agent.

The Chiefs added a new cornerback and linebacker to the mix after the first preseason game.

The arrival of Lowe is actually a homecoming for the journeyman corner who was born in Overland Park. He played his college ball at Texas-El Paso (UTEP) before transferring for one year to Liberty. Lowe has spent time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Los Angeles Rams but has yet to ever play an official snap in the NFL yet.

As for Fatukasi, the former Rutgers star went undrafted a year ago despite his productivity and caught on with the Bucs, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots. He appeared in two games last season.

Even as late additions, both Fatukasi and Lowe face significant hurdles to making the active roster, but knowing they're on Veach's call list in case of an issue should keep them motivated as potential practice squad candidates.
