It was a tough day on the injury front as the Chiefs were attending two a couple of new players on Wednesday.

It's too early to say just yet whether some newer injuries will be anything to worry about in the long term, but it's disheartening in the short term to come out of Wednesday's practices at Kansas City Chifes training camp worried about Justin Watson and Nazeeh Johnson.

The Chiefs already have a number of players dealing with injuries that are worrisome enough—from the overall health of B.J. Thompson to Joe Thuney's pectoral muscle to Charles Omenihu's return from a torn ACL. On Wednesday, the Chiefs training staff were dealing with a couple of new ailments as both Watson and Johnson required medical attention.

Justin Watson's injury

As for the biggest concern, Watson, who has looked great in training camp so far, went down with a lower leg injury that made everyone gasp when it happened. Patrick Mahomes threw to Watson on a short strike while being guarded by Trent McDuffie when he slid in an awkward way and required help getting help.

If there's an upside here to be found in the present, it's that Watson was able to walk off of the field on his own power. He was eventually taken away from the practice fields and was designated with a foot injury.

There's no need to guess about the severity of the injury, but it's important to note how things will impact the overall competitive nature at the position in training camp. Given that Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney are two names often listed on the roster bubble, this opens up more opportunities at wide receiver for the short term for someone to try to earn the coaches' trust.

Nazeeh Johnson's injury

Update: the good news on Nazeeh Johnson's foot is that the move to bring him out of practice was a precautionary move, per Sam McDowell of the Star.

Shortly after Justin Watson went down with his foot injury, Nazeeh Johnson was also requiring the attention of the team's medical staff. While little is known about why Johnson was injured at the time, what is important is what's being called a knee injury by the team following the day's practices at camp.

Specfically, Nate Taylor of The Athletic pointed out the injury and the complicating concern:

If you'll recall, Johnson was a preseason sensation one year ago who looked like a player on track to break training camp with the active roster—a tall order in such a crowded secondary for the former seventh-round choice out of Marshall. Then came a torn ACL injury that ruined it all.

This year, Johnson returned with a lot of buzz as a player to watch for another preseason surprise, but complications can arise with severe injuries that just can't seem to heal properly. If Johnson's knee will not allow him to return to form or to be available with any consistency, that's troublesome news for a coaching staff trying to make difficult decisions.

At this point, it's all conjecture concerning Johnson. Just sad to see on a day where Johnson was already earning first-team reps.
