Chiefs news: Joe Thuney is ready to return from PUP list

The Kansas City Chiefs will get a big boost to the offensive line as they come into another full week of training camp.
For the first several days of training camp for the Kansas City Chiefs, players who are vying for spots on the team's active roster as role players have had more reps to work with than typically expected as injured players have remained on the sideline. Now, Joe Thuney is coming back, which should alter the approach to competition as another full week of camp gets underway on Monday.
NFL reporter Field Yates posted the news on social media that Thuney was ready to return for the Chiefs after clearing his physical. That means a long road from a pectoral muscle injury is finally over—an injury suffered back in the team's postseason game against the Buffalo Bills last winter.
The work is not over for Thuney, but at least now he has been cleared to return to the field and get back into shape for the long season ahead. That means Thuney will be reclaiming his starting left gurad role, which will push competitors like Mike Caliendo and rookies like C.J. Hanson and Hunter Nourzad to the background a bit further.
As for Thuney's return, it will be interesting to see how much work the Chiefs will be giving him during his first practices back in camp. The Chiefs also have three preseason games in which they can test Thuney's readiness and give him competitive reps before they open the season against the Baltimore Ravens.
No matter how many practice reps he takes, Thuney's presence alone will be helpful for the pair of young players competing for the starting left tackle role. Both Kingsley Suamataia, this year's second round pick, and Wanya Morris, last year's third round choice, have been rotating in the spot next to Thuney and both will benefit from his wisdom and experience.
And if you're wondering how a certain someone is feeling about having the team's best offensive lineman back in front of him...
