The Kansas City Chiefs made the obvious roster move an official one on Wednesday with the news that they'd placed running back Isiah Pacheco on injured reserve.

Pacheco is set to miss the next several weeks for the team—some reports have him out for at least the next six weeks or more—and his roster spot on the Chiefs's active roster is too valuable to keep him off of IR. It also doesn't make sense to not move him to injured reserve since he's going to miss the four-game minimum required by IR designations.

The Chiefs finally made the roster move official and placed Pacheco on injured reserve as expected.

The Chiefs lost Pacheco to a fractured fibula injury late in the team's win over the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2. Pacheco immediately sought treatment on the sideline and was seen leaving on crutches in a walking boot. From there, the Chiefs sought further tests that led to his diagnosis of the fibula break.

Without Pacheco, the Chiefs will lean more on rookie fullback Carson Steele while integrating Samaje Perine even more into the offense while simultaneously waiting for Kareem Hunt to get up to speed after returning to the team via free agency. Hunt has spent the last five seasons with the Cleveland Browns.

Pacheco is coming off of consecutive seasons of having led the Chiefs in rushing yards after being selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. Pacheco has 34 carries for 135 yards and 1 touchdown so far on the ground in 2024 for the Chiefs. Last season, he had 203 carries for 935 rushing yards and 7 scores.
