Chiefs news: Hollywood Brown gives positive update after undergoing surgery
By Matt Conner
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise "Hollywood" Brown faces a long road of recovery back from a worse-than-initially-expected sternoclavicular injury. The good news is that his first major step of undergoing surgery to repair the damage has been deemed successful.
On Monday night, Brown put out a quick message on social media giving fans and followers the positive update:
Brown was originally injured back in the first preseason game, when tackled on an early catch in the first quarter against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Brown came out of that game with an injury familiar to Chiefs fans—a sternoclavicular concern—given that former Chiefs wideout Tyreek Hill had the same problem a few seasons ago.
Given Hill's recovery timeline, the Chiefs were hoping for the same quick(er) turnaround and opened the season with Brown still on the active roster. Unfortunately after missing the first week, tests confirmed that his shoulder had not healed correctly even after more than a month of rest. Thus the decision was made to place him on injured reserve before the team's game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
The timeline for Brown is going to be a lengthy one and reports have him likely to miss the entire iseason for the Chiefs. That said, Kansas City is used to playing a few weeks longer than anyone else, and it will be interesting to see if Brown's name resurfaces toward the end of the year as a potential postseason addition for K.C. as they begin a playoff run toward a potential third consecutive Super Bowl victory.
Brown signed a one-year deal with the Chiefs this offseason, so it's quite possible the Chiefs will never see him play an official snap for the team. Only time will tell if Brown heals quickly enough to return late in the year and/or if both parties want to find a way forward together.
