With the news that star defensive tackle Chris Jones has officially re-signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, Chiefs Kingdom is understandably elated. After all, the long-term contract agreement should keep Jones in K.C. for the rest of his career and gives the Chiefs' defense a long-term cornerstone to rely on up front.
What makes this feel like such a win for everyone in Chiefs Kingdom is also due to how long we've been watching these negotiations take place. The Chiefs and Jones have had two years or even more to discuss the potential framework of a contract. Last year, both sides said all the right things about wanting to work something out and yet Jones held out anyway through the first week of the regular season.
This year, that won't be the case and fans have to feel good about seeing Jones at training camp this summer knowing all of the drama is a thing of the past.
The reactions of players, fans, and analysts are all saying the same thing about Chris Jones and his well-deserved deall.
For Jones, the new deal not only makes him richer than ever, but it also cements a legacy that is still growing with each dominant season he displays up front for a Super Bowl favorite. Jones is on display several times each year in primetime and again during the team's long Super Bowl runs, and those are likely to fuel a future Hall of Fame argument that will celebrate his disruptive abilities inside.
For the Chiefs, it's the ability to keep the engine that drives the defense for Steve Spagnuolo. Without Jones, the entire defensive interior is a black hole and the pass rush becomes suspect. With him, he is the rising tide that raises all boats and his presence allows Spags to do so much more in terms of scheme.
So if you're celebrating today, just know you're not alone. Everyone else is too. Here's a sampling of some of our favorite reactions to the news. And of course we start with the most important response of all.

Analysts applauded the deal knowing how valuable Jones is to the Chiefs' success.
Remember kids.. a shut down corner eliminates one WR… an elite pass rusher eliminates ALL of them. The @Chiefs paid the right guy https://t.co/VPAlyXnVCf

Of course, I can confirm the #Chiefs took care of one of their own. The number would have been greater on Monday so they wanted to do it now.

From talking to folks with the team, this is a “no-brainer.”
The offense will be better, and they have their best defensive piece.

We can sit here and hmm and hah over the contract and what it’s worth. The reality is Chris Jones is the best player at his position and has been the best over the last 3 years.

Of course, the deal is not without risk—like any investment—so some overtures were acknowledging as much.
Guaranteeing 95 mil for ages 30, 31 and 32 is one hell of a risk

Chiefs first big deal in the post-Tillis era is a big one. Idk if it gets done when he was still there but this one is a big leap of faith. https://t.co/HEA7MC7ZlG
