The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes advanced to their seventh straight AFC Championship Game, defeating the Buffalo Bills as underdogs on Sunday night.
It was the first time in Patrick Mahomes' playoff career that he was on the road, and just the 11th time in his career that he was an underdog. Yet, the Chiefs still prevailed.
That sets up a matchup with the No. 1-seeded Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 28. While this game is in Baltimore -- which likely meant the Ravens would be favored -- the Chiefs may not be getting a ton of respect in the opening odds.
Chiefs vs. Ravens odds, spread and total
Kansas City is a 3.5-point underdog in this game and an even bigger underdog than it was against the Bills last week.
The Ravens have the No. 1 scoring defense in the NFL this season, and the likely league MVP in Lamar Jackson, but when are oddsmakers going to start respecting what Mahomes and company can do in the playoffs?
Sunday's win moved Mahomes to 13-3 in his postseason career, and two of those three losses have come at the hands of Tom Brady.
Plus, Mahomes has thrived as an underdog in his career, going 9-1-1 against the spread and 8-3 straight up.
Maybe that's a sign that oddsmakers should stop setting the star quarterback as an underdog?
Nevertheless, the Chiefs are in a prime spot to at least cover the spread and keep this game close, as all they'll need to do is keep this matchup within a field goal. These Mahomes stats should give Chiefs bettors confidence that the team can pull off an upset and advance to the Super Bowl for the second straight season.
