After yet another victory in Week 3, the Kansas City Chiefs are flying high and ready for thier first AFC West matchup of the year this weekend.
The Chiefs get the 2-1 LA Chargers who are under new head coach Jim Harbaugh and coming off a tough loss to the Steelers last Sunday. Unfortunately for the Chargers, losing the game was the least of their worries.
Going into their Week 4 matchup with the Chiefs, the Chargers could be down several key players, including quarterback Justin Herbert. Injuries always seem to ravage the Chargers, for some reason. But right now, LA could be in for a disastrous afternoon against an opportunistic Chiefs defense.
Just who might the Chargers be without in this one? Let's take a look at the notable names and why each of their status is either up in the air or already set in stone as "out" for Week 4.
Quarterback Justin Herbert
Herbert aggravated a high ankle sprain in Week 3 and, right now, his status for this week's game is unknown. While ESPN's Adam Schefter did note that Herbert will do whatever possible to be out there, nothing is certain as we speak.
If Herbert doesn't start, it will likely be veteran Taylor Heinicke getting the nod in his place. Now, if Herbert does end up starting, there is a zero percent chance he's playing at full health.
Offensive Tackle Rashawn Slater
The Chargers' offensive line is not in a good place, right now. Both tackles are suffering. Left tackle Rashawn Slater is dealing with a strained pectoral muscle and may end up missing this weekend's contest.
Offensive Tackle Joe Alt
Meanwhile, right tackle and 2024 first-round pick Joe Alt is not going to suit up due to an MCL sprain. This potentially leaves Los Angeles without their two starting offensive tackles.
Pass rusher Joey Bosa
Stop me if you've heard this before. Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa is hurt. He missed Week 3 against the Steelers with a hip injury and, at the moment, his status is uncertain for Week 4.
Safety Derwin James
Finally, this one isn't an injury but Chargers starting safety Derwin James has been suspended for one game due to violating the league's safety rules and repeatedly administering illegal hits. One of the best all-around safeties in the game, James is appealing the suspension but will more than likely be missing Week 4.
With all of that said, the table is set for a Chiefs win and a 4-0 start. This is the NFL, though, and surprises happen each week. It certainly helps to have a head coach like Andy Reid to ensure this team doesn't take the Chargers lightly.
But, if we're being honest ... this could get ugly, fast.
