The Kansas City Chiefs closed out the business week with a minor transaction that provides the franchise with more security along the defensive front with the signing of Marlon Tuipulotu.

Tuipulotu joined the Chiefs, per NFL reporter Mike Garafolo, on Friday afternoon after spending the last few seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. Philly released Tuipulotu after claiming another defensive tackle, Byron Young, on waivers.

Tuipulotu entered the National Football League as the sixth-round selection of the Eagles in the 2021 NFL Draft. A 6'2, 307 lb. lineman, Tuipulotu was a three-year starter for USC who had 15 tackles for loss and 8.5 sacks for the Trojans. His draft stock took a hit, however, due to being a bit undersized for a nose tackle role yet not developed or athletic enough to disrupt.

Since '21, Tuipulotu has played in 28 total games with 3 sacks in limited snaps, but his playing time declined last year and he'd been edged out by Milton Williams and others on the depth chart in Philly.

For the Chiefs, the chance to grab Tuipoluto gives the Chiefs another big body in house to see how he takes to Joe Cullen's coaching. His experience could prove important for a position that could look thin with a single injury up front. It's possible the Chiefs will retain four defensive tackles on the P.S., but it will be interesting to see if they keep Neil Farrell, Matt Dickerson, and/or Fabien Lovett in this process.

No corresponding moves were announced by the Chiefs as of press time.
