It's a shame for any player to suffer an injury at any time, but Derek Carr deserved much better results in multiple ways on the play that took him out of the game on Monday night at Arrowhead. Unfortunately, not only did his receiver let him down on a deep conversion to stay competitive, but the blitz he took to deliver the pass ended up hurting his back.

Carr led the New Orleans Saints into Arrowhead on Monday Night Football for a primetime showcase against the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, in Week 5. And as tough as the Chiefs' defense played them, the Saints were keeping things close in the fourth quarter with opportunistic plays and a Chiefs team that refused to put them away.

As the Chiefs were pulling away, the Saints knew they needed to go for it on a fourth-and-8 play from the Chiefs 41-yard line with 9:38 left to play down two scores to K.C. The Chiefs sent the house on an 8-man blitz and Carr unloaded quickly before getting taken down by Chiefs defensive back Chamarri Conner.

After the play, Carr could be seen holding his lower back and he immediately went to the sideline for further assistance from the New Orleans' training staff. From there, the team announced that he'd suffered an oblique injury and designated him as "questionable" to return to the game.

If Carr is unable to return to the game, Jake Haener will be the replacement. The Saints left Spencer Rattler on the inactives list.
