Bills’ fluctuating stance on Chiefs trades shows why they can’t match reigning champions

The pick will be ultimately what matters, but the fact that the Bills were the trade partner makes this even more fascinating

During the first round of the NFL Draft on Thursday evening, fans eagerly waited to see who the Kansas City Chiefs were going to pick at number 32. It was a long wait, but eventually there was movement. This came in the form of a trade-up to pick 28 where the Chiefs selected Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy.

This pick will be analyzed from every angle, but what sticks out to me is who the Chiefs traded with to get their man: the Buffalo Bills. The little brother of the Chiefs in the AFC. The Bills have spent the last several years looking up to (and getting beaten by) the Chiefs, just like the Chiefs used to do with the Patriots.

Because of that, it's no surprise that there is animosity between the two teams. At least for Buffalo. Which is what makes this trade so darn interesting.

Just a few months ago Buffalo traded away their star wide receiver Stefon Diggs. Not long after the trade, rumors began to swirl that the Bills had given Diggs permission to seek a trade to any team except for one: Kansas City. That's a new level of petty. (And fear?)

Now fast forward to the draft and the Bills decided that they weren't cool with Kansas City getting Diggs, but they were okay with letting Kansas City jump ahead of the line and giving the Chiefs the Bills pick in a trade.

The Bills had to have known that K.C. was taking a wide receiver. Why not stick it to them like they did with Diggs? If you're going to be petty, go all in. But alas, they couldn't quite sell it like Tony Khand.

And now the Bills are setting them up for a possible repeat of the infamous 2017 trade. Bills fans seem well aware of that fact and aren't handling it well.

Time will tell if Worthy works out for the Chiefs. The Bills are praying that it doesn't. And if this trade comes back to bite them in the playoffs next year, Buffalo will have no one to blame but themselves.
