Douglas Coleman III went down in the third quarter of the team's preseason finale.

The third quarter of the Chicago Bears' final preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs featured the one scene that no one ever wants to see during a football game: a serious injury involving the head or neck of a player. On Thursday, it was Douglas Coleman III of the Bears who was injured and everyone at Arrowhead Stadium was silent in response.

Coleman went down in the second half after trying to tackle Chiefs wide receiver Cornell Powell. The result was a scary injury that required him to be taken out on a stretcher and medical cart.

After a workout, the Bears took a flyer on Coleman last January by signing him to a deal early in the team's offseason after the defensive back had spent the previous couple of seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Ottawa Redblacks. He spent two years there with the Redblacks and had 60 tackles with 4 sacks and 3 interceptions a year ago.

Coleman originally entered the professional ranks with the National Football League as an undrafted free agent for the Denver Broncos in 2020. He was a former long-term starter with Texas Tech from 2016-2019, where he was first-team All-Big 12 by his final season.

The Bears came into Arrowhead having played one more game than almost every other team thanks to their preseason opening contest against the Houston Texans in the Hall of Fame game to start the month of August. Both the Bears and Chiefs are now finished with their preseason slate.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Coleman and his family.
