It's the second year that is the breakout year for a player in Andy Reid's offense. At least that's what Kansas City Chiefs fans are hoping to see from Skyy Moore as he enters his sophomore season in the league after being taken in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft by general manager Brett Veach a year ago.

Moore comes into this season with a real opportunity to shine in the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs wide receiver room is wide open for someone to lay claim to the primary pass catcher title among the lot in the absence of JuJu Smith-Schuster from a year ago. It also helps that Travis Kelce is there at tight end to shoulder that load and tie up the concerns of opposing defensive coordinators.

As for Moore, he entered the league as a fast, physical target who can create separation at the pro level, but it took him some time as a rookie to find his footing as a receiver. It certainly didn't help that the Chiefs forced him into a return role on special teams despite multiple miscues. However, it's in those same mistakes that the Chiefs found out a lot about him.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid spoke to reporters on Thursday following the completion of mandatory minicamp and he was asked about Moore's development. He had nothing but great things to say about the young receiver.

"Skyy was targeted quite a bit this preseason. He was one of the higher targets this preseason. Had close to the most catches. I think he’s taken a good jump. Most of all, the quarterback trusts him, so that’s why I mention the number there. The quarterback’s not going to throw it to you if he doesn’t trust you.

"Still a ton of room to climb and grow, but he’s so willing though. You got a chance to see one o the good parts of his personality is when everything was going wrong last year with punt returns, he didn’t let that bother him. He came back and could have a big catch in the same game. That was all new territory for him with those punt returns. But the resiliency and being able to focus back in, that’s a good quality to have."

Moore had only 25 catches on the year for 250 yards and zero touchdowns. However, his usage early in camps have fans excited to see what a higher level of trust and chemistry might bring within the offense. Given his ability to dominate at Western Michigan and the growing praise that Reid and Mahomes have for Moore, it could be a bright second season for him in the Chiefs offense in 2023.
