Amari Cooper looks miserable.

Cooper has every reason to feel that way as a member of the Cleveland Browns. Not only is the franchise sinking faster than anyone expected in 2024, but they seem to be going nowhere fast in the future, too, given the gargantuan contract given out (and the draft capital dealt away) to be able to employ Deshaun Watson at quarterback.

On Sunday, the Browns offense put up another abysmal effort in a brutal 21-point loss to the Washington Commanders. Given their record at 1-4, the team feels like its wasting plenty of young talent on both sides of the ball—from Myles Garrett to Nick Chubb—and Cooper is certainly in that group.

So far this season, Cooper's stats look like part of the problem in Cleveland given that he's caught only 20 of 47 targets for 208 yards and 2 touchdowns. So far through five games, he's averaging less than half of the receiving yards he had a year ago (83.3 yards/game to 41.6). His catch rate is anemic, and his yards/target is 4.4—down a whopping 5.5 yards from a year ago.

For those watching the games, however, it's clear that the primary person to blame isn't Father Time who has somehow caught up with Cooper after he made the Pro Bowl just a year ago. Instead, it's the horrific play of Watson under center that has crippled the Browns' chances.

Going forward, head coach Kevin Stefanski has said he's not making a change at quarterback, which means Cooper will keep trying to catch passes from Watson—however they come at him—in the hopes of turning things around. But that hasn't stopped fans from every other team in the NFL (seemingly) from calling for their favorite franchise to trade for him.

That list includes Chiefs Kingdom, which has been very vocal on social media about wanting Chiefs general manager Brett Veach to trade for Cooper himself. That's not an uneducated take, by the way. The Chiefs have already lost their top two wide receivers two long-term injuries and it's possible that neither Rashee Rice nor Hollywood Brown play again this year for Kansas City.

The Chiefs now have Xavier Worthy, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and then a group of familiar faces who weren't so inspiring a year ago. That's what makes fans believe that a trade to bolster the unit is in the works and that Cooper could be that guy.

Even those outside of K.C are saying the same. Check out the sampling of fan bases below—from Buffalo to Washington to Pittsburgh.

The latest rumors say that the Browns aren't keen to trade Cooperdvv, but more frustrating football is likely on the way with games scheduled against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals, and Baltimore Ravens in the next three weeks.
