8 free agents who should top the Chiefs offseason wish list
Safety - Mike Edwards
Mike Edwards proved to be a fantastic signing last season, a safety who was essential to the defense when Bryan Cook went down with an injury. With Justin Reid, Bryan Cook, and Chamarri Conner all set to compete for playing time next season, the Chiefs may not even need Edwards, but the safety market may just be so reasonable that he'll be hard to pass up.
The list of good free agent safeties this offseason is a long one and it seems like teams league-wide have decided they just don't want to spend much cap space on the position. So if the big-name guys can't find big deals, that means the second-tier guys like Edwards will likely have to settle for small one-year deals.
Last year the Chiefs got him on a one-year deal for $3 million. It's possible that number may even be smaller this season with the safety market like it is. If that is the case, then it would be hard to resist bringing back a guy who played that well and already knows the system. It stinks for Edwards, but it could give KC one of the best safety groups in all of the NFL.
So there you have it Chiefs fans. That's my list of free agent targets for the start of free agency. Who do you like? Who do you not like? Who do you like, but don't think will be worth the contract it would take to sign them? Who do you like that didn't make my list? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Free agency is officially upon us and it will be exciting to see which players end up on the Chiefs roster when all is said and done.
