5 under-the-radar free agents the KC Chiefs should target
Marcus Davenport, Defensive End
Similar to Maurice Hurst, Marcus Davenport's 2023 season ended prematurely due to an injury, except he only managed to play in 118 snaps.
Davenport signed with the Minnesota Vikings last offseason on a one-year prove-it deal, but a high ankle sprain ruined his season. He did manage to record 2 sacks in 4 games, including one against Patrick Mahomes in Week 5.
Davenport also has the size that Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo typically likes in his defensive ends and has been good in both run defense and as a pass rusher throughout his six seasons in the NFL.
Due to his ankle injury, Davenport should be very cheap to sign. A conservative projection would put him in the ballpark of $5M on a short-term deal, which the Chiefs can certainly make work.
