5 free agent running backs not named Austin Ekeler the Chiefs could sign

If the Chiefs wanted to go a less expensive route, one of these five running backs could make a lot of sense in Kansas City next to Isiah Pacheco.

4. D'Andre Swift

The Philadelphia Eagles' depth chart was a hilarious mess at one point last summer. It was anyone's guess who would emerge as the lead back. Oddly enough, Kenneth Gainwell wound up being the No. 1 guy to start the season. Free agent signing Rashaad Penny became an afterthought, while D'Andre Swift came over in a trade with Detroit and looked to be a backup.

It didn't take long for Swift to emerge as the Eagles' lead back, though, as an injury to Gainwell allowed for the former Lions back to rush for 175 yards in a primetime Week 2 matchup with Minnesota. The following week, Swift went for 130 yards on the ground.

While he never topped 100 yards the rest of the season, Swift was still a capable back and went over 60 yards rushing on seven other occasions, finishing the year with 1,049 yards on the ground. He also caught 39 passes for Philly.

With the ball in his hands, Swift is still a playmaker. He's still a threat. He's someone the Chiefs could use on the field at the same time as Pacheco, too, as a pass catcher. Swift has the potential to carry the load if need be, but also give added depth as a third-down back.
