5 free agent running backs not named Austin Ekeler the Chiefs could sign

If the Chiefs wanted to go a less expensive route, one of these five running backs could make a lot of sense in Kansas City next to Isiah Pacheco.

3. Antonio Gibson

If the Chiefs are looking for a true change-of-pace type back in free agency, it might not get much better than Antonio Gibson. The former third-round pick out of Memphis back in 2020, Gibson came into the league receiving high praise from his former head coach, Ron Rivera. At one point, Rivera even gave Gibson a comparison to one of his former running backs in Carolina; a guy by the name of Christian McCaffrey.

While Gibson's career hasn't exactly panned out in the same fashion as McCaffrey's, a fresh start would do him some justice. Gibson is a talented back who can be a menace in the passing game. His pass-catching ability is maybe the best out of all these guys listed, here.

Gibson also has breakaway speed. If he's able to get to the second level, Gibson could be gone in a blink. The problem for Gibson, though, has been the inconsistent usage in Washington. He has had a small concern with ball security, but for the most part, it's been a bit odd to see the usage both surge and dip with the Commanders.

Gibson does have a 1,000-yard rushing season under his belt (2021) but last year, he was primarily used in the passing game, totaling a career-high 48 receptions for 389 yards.
