This offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs are widely believed to be in the market for another running back.
One of the rumored candidates the Chiefs have been connected to is current Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler.
While it would be fun to steal a talented guy like Ekeler from a division rival, there are plenty of other backs available via free agency this year. And, many of them would come cheaper than Ekeler.
If the Chiefs wanted to go a less expensive route, one of these five running backs could make a lot of sense in Kansas City next to Isiah Pacheco.
1. Zack Moss
The 2020 third-round pick was kind of an afterthought with the Buffalo Bills to begin his career. It wasn't until he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts midway through the 2022 season that he saw an uptick in production.
Moss would average the most yards per game, of his career, in that second half with the Colts. Then, in 2023, he became a focal point, especially in the absence of Jonathan Taylor. Moss ran for 794 yards and five scores. But, he was also a factor in the passing game, where he caught 27 passes on the season; two of which went for touchdowns.
Moss is 26 years old and likely in the midst of his prime, for his position. He could give the Chiefs another capable back between the tackles as well as someone who could operate on third downs. In a fairly deep class of free agent running backs, Moss is projected to have a market value of $4.6 million annually, per Spotrac.
