49ers vs. Chiefs opening odds for Super Bowl 58 (Kansas City disrespected as underdog again)
By Peter Dewey
The Kansas City Chiefs are going to get a chance to defend their title as Super Bowl champions.
Kansas City upset the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, coming through as underdogs of as much as five points at some sportsbooks to pull off the outright win.
That moved quarterback Patrick Mahomes to 10-1-1 against the spread and 9-3 straight up as an underdog in his NFL career.
Just some crazy stuff from one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game – yes we can say that already.
Mahomes is now leading the Chiefs to their fourth Super Bowl appearance in his career, as he looks to move to 3-1 on the NFL’s brightest stage.
His opponent? It will be the San Francisco 49ers – a rematch of Super Bowl 54 when Mahomes led Kansas City to a comeback win to capture his first championship.
Chiefs fans have seen Mahomes in the Super Bowl, and given his run in the playoffs this season – especially since it has come as an underdog and on the road in multiple games – it’s hard not to be confident that Kansas City can win this game.
First, let’s take a look at the opening odds for Super Bowl 58, including how likely Vegas thinks it is that the Chiefs capture a third Super Bowl title under Mahomes and Andy Reid.

Chiefs odds to win Super Bowl 58
The Chiefs are currently +106 to win Super Bowl 58 at FanDuel Sportsbook.
That means oddsmakers are giving the Chiefs an implied probability of 48.5 percent to hoist the Lombardi Trophy this season.
It’s shocking to see the Chiefs once again as underdogs – but bettors knew this would happen. The 49ers have been the favorite to win the Super Bowl since the start of the playoffs, and Vegas isn’t changing its tune after the team’s comeback win in the NFC title game.
For Chiefs fans, this is simple.
Patrick Mahomes is money as an underdog. He’s 10-1-1 against the spread and 9-3 straight up. He also won the Super Bowl as an underdog last season, so this is familiar territory for this Chiefs team.
