4 Chiefs players who deserve plenty of blame (instead of the refs)
By Jacob Milham
Marquez Valdes-Scantling
Three games have passed since Marquez Valdes-Scantling said he would "be better". His on-field performance has been anything but. Fans keep waiting for Valdes-Scantling's bounce back but that is a fool's errand it seems.
Since Valdes-Scantling dropped the win against the Philadelphia Eagles, he has been a non-factor on the field. He only had three receptions on six targets for 24 yards total against the Las Vegas Raiders and Green Bay Packers. That trend continued in Sunday's loss, where Valdes-Scantling had two catches on four targets for 22 yards. Whoop-dee-do.
He did nothing of note against the Bills, had a drive-killing penalty in the first quarter, and disrespected reporter PJ Green this past week. Valdes-Scantling is not only the best-paid wide receiver in Kansas City but also the veteran in the room. His 88 career games are more than Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, and Kadarius Toney combined (70).
There is no player with more responsibility to bring these young receivers along than Valdes-Scantling. The bone-headed errors continue—ones that a veteran should assist the coaching staff in preventing. Whether it be in the locker room, on the field, or social media, Valdes-Scantling did nothing this week to help Kansas City win.
He can keep saying he will be better all he wants. I will believe it when I see it.
