There's no denying that coming up with a big play or three in a Super Bowl can make or break a career. Ask yourself if anyone on planet Earth would know David Tyree's name without such a historic catch for the Giants as one example. For the Kansas City Chiefs, Damien Williams was made a hero in the postseason while Dee Ford was lambasted.

For looming free agents, the chance to perform in the Super Bowl is an even greater incentive to play with their best effort knowing how much money is at stake.

We know already that some free agents-to-be for the Chiefs are going to cost considerable money, including defensive tackle Chris Jones and cornerback L'Jarius Sneed. But that's not hard to figure out, What we're interested in here is taking a closer look at those Chiefs who have the most to gain (and some real money to make) with a strong performance in Super Bowl LVIIII. s

Willie Gay Jr., LB

At this point, the Chiefs have too many defensive players to potentially re-sign to be able to bring everyone back that they'd like. That's especially true at linebacker where the financial ceilings are lower than other positions despite how much the Chiefs would love to make sure Gay doesn't go anywhere.

Gay is now nearly finished with his rookie deal with the Chiefs after being selected in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. That means he's scheduled to hit free agency in March when the new league year arrives. That's good news for the part of him that's ready to try to reach for generational money even if it comes at the end of a meaningful run with the team that drafted him.

The Chiefs already have Leo Chenal and Nick Bolton prepared for starting reps next season and given how much Steve Spagnuolo seems to love Drue Tranquill, it wouldn't surprise anyone to see an overture made in free agency to bring him back.

As for Gay, he's got a real chance at decent money on a long-term deal if someone falls in love with the potential and Super Bowl experience. If Gay can show off his incredible athleticism with some significant stops on Christian McCaffrey or George Kittle in the Super Bowl, those highlights will go a long way toward getting some general manager to make the offer they're looking for.
