Khalen Saunders

When discussing the idea of former players potentially returning to the fold of the Chiefs' roster, most of the time, we're thinking of guys who are currently free agents who might make their way back to the team. But in this instance, since he's currently locked up in a multi-year deal with the New Orleans Saints, we're talking about a trade for Khalen Saunders.

Saunders will be familiar to Chiefs Kingdom as the much-loved defensive tackle who helped deliver a championship in '22. Saunders was a joy to watch on the field and as much fun to follow off of it, and even as he signed a nice free agent payday with the Saints a year ago, he's remained a vocal proponent of all things K.C. while trying to also make friends in his new surroundings.

Here's the truth, the only defensive tackle under contract at the present time is Neil Farrell. Well, it's Farrell and two futures players, to be exact. While Chris Jones might re-sign and Derrick Nnadi could re-up, the hard truth here is that no position is as thin on depth or talent overall than the defensive interior.

At this point, even Turk Wharton is a free agent as is Nnadi, Jones, Mike Pennel, and Mike Danna who slides inside. We're not sure what it would take to get Saunders back, but if something happened to bring him back through those doors at Arrowhead, he'd get a hero's welcome from Chiefs faithful.
