3 former Chiefs players who failed with their new team in 2023
Mecole Hardman
This one's a sneaky entry because Mecole Hardman isn't a former player. That being said, he did spend time with a team other than the Chiefs in 2023 and he did not live up to the expectations while with that team. Before we get to that, let's look at Hardman's NFL history.
The Chiefs spent a second-rounder on Hardman in the 2019 NFL Draft and he never became anything more than a low-end WR2. Following the end of his rookie contract, Hardman signed a one-year deal with the Jets worth $4 million. As you'll remember, the Jets were getting a ton of hype because the Packers had traded Aaron Rodgers to New York.
Well, as we know, Rodgers was injured just four snaps into the 2023 season. Even if he had been healthy, who knows if Hardman would have gone on to do anything in New York? In the five games he appeared in as a Jet, Hardman had just one catch for six yards.
The Chiefs traded for Hardman at the deadline and while he had a lot of frustrating moments in his return trip to Kansas City, none of it mattered when he had the game-winning touchdown in overtime of Super Bowl LVIII.
Hardman failed with the Jets and somehow still managed to win a Super Bowl ring at the end of the season. That's pretty spectactular.
